Each morning is a time for us to start fresh. We make a decision every time we wake up to be a version of ourselves that can make or break our day. We have the ability to be whoever we want that day. Instead of allowing outside circumstances to determine our mood and set the tone for the rest of the day ahead, let’s begin to practice balancing our feelings regarding situations we cannot control. If we start the day with a solid mindset, it will be much more difficult for the world around us to affect how we feel.
In order to train our minds to be more positive and accepting of situations we do not have control of, we must start as soon as we wake up. Finding and repeating affirmations that work for you and your situation are going to help guide you in a direction for a better day ahead. When we start our day by acknowledging who we are and what we are capable of, we are instantly setting our day up to be much more successful than it had been before. This success isn’t measured by what we accomplish, but rather how we feel and how we react to difficult situations around us.
Every morning, try looking in a mirror and telling yourself:
- I am capable of anything I put my mind to.
- I am strong enough to handle what comes my way.
- I am intelligent enough to figure out things I am unsure of.
- I am confident enough to stand behind my ideas and what I believe in.
- I respect myself and my thoughts and my actions.
- I am doing my best even if that looks different from day to day.
- I am worth more than other people’s opinions of me.
- I am successful in life simply because I am here, and I keep on trying.
There is the possibility that you may have either thought of these ideas or tried them already and found them to be unsuccessful. There is also a greater possibility that some of these affirmations are words that you tell yourself and they do not make you feel better. The main aspect to consider is finding what you need to hear each and every day. Once you tackle that battle, you can repeat the words that will soothe you each morning and will create a more positive mindset for you to take on your day ahead.
For some, this may be easier said than done. During a time when mental health is being tested more than ever, it may feel overwhelming to keep our emotions balanced. Due to this challenge, those at risk for or struggling with anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues (obsessive-compulsive disorder [OCD], anger control issues, family system issues, etc.), may have a more difficult time beginning their day on the right foot.
