Merritt Reid is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in New Jersey who works with adults, couples, and teens utilizing an array of evidence-based approaches including cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) and the Gottman method for couples counseling. Merritt has experience working with anxiety, depression, grief, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), the aftermath of abuse, codependency, trauma, and stress. Merritt is passionate in working with couples and individuals who are dealing with infertility, miscarriage, traumatic birth, postpartum depression and anxiety, or any other pregnancy-related issues and works with them to facilitate hope and restore balance, their identity, and a sense of well-being. Merritt also works frequently with adults who grew up within dysfunctional family units due to addiction and mental health issues.
Merritt obtained his master’s degree (M.S.) from Monmouth University in clinical mental health counseling and has been trained in perinatal loss and grief and perinatal mood and anxiety disorders through The Seleni Institute and Postpartum Support International (PSI) in which he received his PMH-C certification. Merritt also holds his Certificate in Thanatology (CT) through the Association for Death Education and Counseling (ADEC) and works with clients experiencing loss of all kinds. With a specialization in religion and spirituality, Merritt works with clients struggling with loss, religious and spiritual identity, and those struggling with existential concerns. Merritt has also completed Level 2 of the Gottman Method for working with relationship issues and focuses on managing conflict, building a foundation of trust, and creating friendship, intimacy, connection, and passion with the goal of win-win solutions. Merritt is passionate about couples and relationship work because so much of our time and human nature is interpersonally centered and fosters an aspect of the connection that is inherently needed.
Merritt strives to create a warm, genuine, and authentic atmosphere that promotes empowering clients to achieve the best version of themselves. Merritt believes everyone is unique and that what works for one person may not work for someone else. For this reason, Merritt works with clients to make sure they resonate with the direction of their therapy and techniques utilized as well as to facilitate autonomy and create prolonged lasting change.
