Alexa Vizcarra, LPC

Alexa Vizcarra is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the State of New Jersey who specializes in working with teens and adults who suffer from anxiety, depression, stress management issues, bereavement and grief, anger, OCD, and personality disorders. Alexa has a passion for using evidence-based treatments such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and exposure and response prevention (ERP).

Alexa graduated with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a minor in sociology from the State University at Albany, SUNY in 2015 before later obtaining her master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Monmouth University in 2018. Alexa has completed internships at both Monmouth University’s Department of Counseling and Psychological Services and Common Ground Grief Center. While interning at each of these sites, Alexa developed a passion for working with young adults and assisting them in feeling supported and empowered during a chapter of life that often brings many anxiety-provoking changes. Her passion for grief work was also sparked through her internship work where she facilitated peer support groups for children and teens that experienced the loss of loved ones. Through this work she learned how important it is to the therapeutic relationship to understand the individuality of each client and their stories.

Alexa has worked as a mental health therapist in an outpatient setting treating clients of all ages from young children to older adults, various cultural backgrounds, and mental health issues including social anxiety disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, and other anxiety disorders. She enjoys working with individuals and families and aims to provide science-supported services tailored to the needs of each individual and family. Alexa approaches each of her clients with compassion, understanding, and the genuine desire to assist them in achieving their goals of treatment.

“Seeking treatment can often be a scary concept and takes an immense amount of courage. My goal when working with clients is to provide a comfortable, safe space for us to collaborate and work together towards empowerment so they can then face stressors confidently and alleviate them successfully.”
