Janine Lalancette is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the state of New Jersey, specializing in the treatment of children, adolescents, and adults struggling with anxiety disorders, stress management, obsessions and compulsions, trauma, and mood disorders.  Janine’s areas of expertise also include counseling couples who are looking for action-oriented, practical strategies. Janine’s primary methods for addressing presenting concerns are evidence-based practices with an emphasis on Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) which help reframe unhelpful and/or unhealthy behaviors and thoughts as well as increase emotion regulation and distress tolerance skills.  Janine also has intensive training in the use of Exposure and Response Treatment (ERP) for OCD and Habit Reversal Training (HRT) for clients who are struggling with hair pulling, skin picking or tic disorders.

Janine earned her B.A. in Psychology from The College of New Jersey and her Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. During her graduate studies, she had a clinical concentration with a focus on the study of Minuchin’s structural family therapy, family systems, attachment theory and Aaron T. Beck’s CBT model. She applied her studies to her clinical internships which began at Saint Peter’s University Hospital, Pediatric Craniofacial and Neurosurgical Center. Her work focused on providing support and counseling to families and their children, with autism spectrum disorders, ADHD and craniofacial abnormalities. During her following internships, she worked at Richard Hall Community Mental Health Center and Carrier Clinic where her experience was focused on acute mental health disorders in the inpatient and intensive outpatient settings.

As a licensed clinician, Janine first began practicing in the acute medical setting with a specialization in intensive care and crisis intervention. She worked for St. Peter’s University Hospital and Overlook Medical Center with a focus on Neonatal, Pediatric, Adult and Neuro Intensive Care, providing supportive counseling to patients and their families who were adjusting to new onset and chronic medical illnesses, loss and bereavement. This experience helped shape her understanding of the significance of being entirely present with someone during their most challenging moments.

As an Intensive In-Community Therapist and Senior Primary Therapist for Penn Medicine | Princeton House Behavioral Health, Janine treated children and adolescents who were struggling with anxiety, depression, impulse control issues, behavioral issues, ADHD and Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD). Janine also worked extensively with adults who were experiencing mood disorders, chronic and persistent mental illness, and various anxiety disorders including Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Panic Disorder, Agoraphobia, Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Social Phobia.

Janine’s post-graduate education includes intensive trainings through The Beck Institute, created by the founder of CBT, Aaron T. Beck, University of Pennsylvania’s Department of Psychiatry, Child/Adolescent OCD, Tic, Trich and Anxiety Group and The Center for Treatment and Study of Anxiety, Minuchin Center for the Family and The New Jersey Couples Therapy Training Program (NJCTTP) a Division of The Center for Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis of New Jersey (CPPNJ).
